A father, a son, a husband—and a friend to everyone in Kraaifontein
Some people are just good. You see it in how they treat others. You feel it when they help you without asking for anything back. Linda Phito is one of those people.
He is a father who loves his children. A son who respects his parents. A husband who stands by his wife. But he is also something more—he is a man with a big heart for his community.
Always There to Help
In Kraaifontein, when people did not know what to do about their ID documents, they called Linda. He knew how Home Affairs worked. He did not learn this in school. He learned it by helping one person after another, walking with them through the process until they got their papers. He was patient. He was kind. He never gave up on anyone.
When SASSA was hard to reach, Linda did not sit back. He went to the offices. He made the calls. He kept going back until the people of Kraaifontein could get the help they needed. He did this because he cared, not because someone paid him or told him to.
The Long Drive to Help a Family
One day, Linda heard about a family in the Eastern Cape who needed help. The Eastern Cape is far from Kraaifontein. But Linda got into a bus and went all that way. No cameras followed him. No one wrote about it in the news. He just went because a family was in trouble, and he could help.
That is the kind of man he is. Distance does not stop him. Hardship does not scare him. If someone needs help, Linda Phito shows up.
Building Something Good
In 2018, Linda started Community Advisory Services, or CAS. He wanted to help people get education, healthcare, and skills to find work. CAS helps children go to good preschools. It brings healthcare to people who cannot get to hospitals. It teaches young people skills so they can get jobs and stay away from drugs and crime.
When COVID-19 came, many families in Kraaifontein had no food, no warm clothes, and no blankets. CAS asked for donations. Linda wrote letters to Shoprite and to Social Development. He asked for help, not for himself, but for the 30 families who had nothing. He worked day and night to make sure no one was forgotten.
Finding Peace, Not Fighting
When people in Kraaifontein started taking land that was meant for a hospital, a school, and new houses, Linda did not want violence. He wanted peace. He wrote a letter to the City of Cape Town. He said he understood why people were desperate. But he also knew these new projects would bring jobs and better lives for everyone.
He asked the city to open another piece of land for people to stay on for now. He wanted everyone to win—the people who needed homes, and the community that needed the hospital and the school. This is how Linda thinks. He does not pick sides. He finds ways for everyone to come together.
A Thank You from the Country
The South African Human Rights Commission saw what Linda was doing. They gave him a Citation of Honour—a special award for people who give their time to help others. They said he empowers people. They said he helps solve problems. They said he gives people hope.
Linda was happy, but humble. He said thank you, and then he got back to work. That is who he is.
Now Running for Ward 101
Today, Linda Phito is running to be the Ward Councillor for Ward 101. He wants to bring better services, safer streets, and more support for young people and women. He wants clean, green, and caring neighbourhoods.
But he is not making big promises he cannot keep. He is simply saying: I have been here for you all along. Let me keep serving you, now in a new way.
Why People Trust Him
People trust Linda because he has earned it. He missed family time to help a neighbour. He drove far to help a stranger. He learned hard things so others would not have to struggle. He built an organisation with his own two hands. He asked for help when his community needed it. He stood for peace when others wanted to fight. He took a national award and turned it into more good work.
He is not loud. He is not flashy. He is just a good man who works hard and puts others first.
Ward 101, you already know him. He has been your neighbour, your helper, your friend. Now he wants to serve you as your councillor.
Some leaders are born from power. Linda Phito was born from service. And that makes all the difference.
